Rest in Peace Joe Paterno

Unfortunately, the news is now official. Early this morning, January 22nd 2012, Joe Paterno had lost his two month battle with cancer. Rest in Peace Joe Paterno. Joe Pa died at the age of 85, holding the NCAA record for most wins in football by any coach, with 409 victories. I’ve been a fan of Joe Paterno ever since I was a little kid, when my grandpa was rooting for the Penn State Nittany Lions and Joe Paterno, because he they were both Italian and from New York. I’ve stuck with the team since then as well, even though my grandpa and Joe Paterno are no longer here.

Regardless of all the circumstances, Rest in Peace Joe Paterno. You were my favorite football coach of all-time and it’ll stay that way. I’ll leave off with some words from recent Penn State Football graduates on the subject.

Coach, you embodied so much more than just Penn State football! football was what u did but put so much more above it! I have learned more about the game of life from you than i ever did from football! The values and principles and life lessons are learned from
You will stick with me forever! Rest in peace my friend, my mentor and my coach! -AQ Shipley, current Pittsburgh Steeler

This is not easy. Not for me, my teammates, my family, or Coach’s University. This is a sad time, but let’s remember everything Coach Paterno has done for all of us and all the great memories he has created. Lets remember the things he has taught us, and continue to teach others his ways. Thank you for taking a chance on me, giving me a walk-on spot, and helping me to earn a scholarship. You made my dreams come true, and my thoughts and prayers are with Coach and the paterno family. -Graham Zug, recent Penn State grad and wide receiver

I hope he burns in hell…He chose winning and a football team over protecting the very youth he claimed to mentor. Scum.

I can say I was honored to meet Joe Paterno while I was in grad school at PSU. Everyday I would see him walking to practice. My chance meeting was one of laughter with his wit. He was a great man and did so much for so many people and he is and always will be PENN STATE. I would hope for the season opener next season at home everyone will wear white….we have a new angel in Heaven who will always be looking down on Beaver Stadium..God Bless Joe and his family

People are remembered for what they have done in their lifetime as a whole. I can only hope that people will remmeber Joe paterno for all the great things he has done for so many people.
If there were a million Joe Paternos out there the world may not be in the state it is in today.
Rest in peace!

My family is a BIG Penn State Fan and out of respect for coach Paterno I’ve kept my comments to myself during this whole sex scandle. But, now I feel its time to say how I feel about this man, Coach Paterno himself made Penn State what it is today, He and his family gave alot to the school and students in return when this came out he was belittled and ridiclued for not doing what everyone thinks he should have done! The man did what he thought was right and went to his superiors,He’s not the villan here Sandusky is! I know those kids were victims and its terrible but,if you go to your superiors and tell them what you heard and are told they would investigate or take care of it most of us would do the same as coach Paterno did!!! My heart and soul goes out to his family for such a horrible loss!!! And those that ridiculed him and those on the board that fired him hopefully you can sleep at night with a clear conscious! Once he lost his players and all the students I feel Coach Paterno lost all his will to fight this cancer!!!! GOD BLESS YOU JOEPA!!!!

To the family of Joe Pa,
My heart goes out to all of you. I had the privilege of meeting Joe once, years ago. He touched my heart, not just as a coach, but as a caring, gracious individual. I knew that I was in the presence of greatness.

With Sympathy,

Joe Paterno has been a part of my life since I was a little girl growing up in Pennsylvania. Everyone, young and old, knew who he was. He was our state hero…and as I’ve grown older, I’ve held him in the highest esteem and have always been a fan. He was like family. I cried as much for his passing as I would for a family member…….and am so very sorry for the pain and suffering he has endured these past few months. McQuery and the higher ups at PSU should be ashamed. You’ve very effectively killed a man who did so much for your university and gave his entire life to PSU. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and Sue for the pain and heartache that have also suffered as they watched Joe being made a sacrificial lamb by the press, and those at PSU, for whom he had done so much. Rest in peace Joe…….I’ll miss you for the rest of my life……

To show the whole world how much Penn Staters regard Joe, the stadium should be renamed ‘Paterno Stadium’ instead of ‘Beaver Stadium.’
