in New York Jets, NY Jet Interviews

The Jersey Jets Fan is proud to introduce our latest exclusive interview. This time around its with one of my favorite players, second year Jets linebacker Jamaal Westerman. Last year during his rookie campaign as an undrafted rookie, he made some great plays that made you wonder how he slipped through the cracks at the draft and fell into the Jets hands. Either way, I’m glad he did. Whether it was his sack on Matt Schaub during week one or the fumble recovery and return against Cincinnati during the last week, he seemed to always be at the right place at the right time. I’ll cut to the chase now though, here is the interview, enjoy it.

Jersey Jets Fan-As an undrafted free agent, did you feel like you had more to prove as a rookie then the players that were drafted?

Jamaal Westerman- Of course I felt I had more to prove as a rookie. But I didn’t really look at it like that. I just came in with a workmans attitude and tried to get better everyday with every oppurtunity I was given.

Jersey Jets Fan-You performed very well on the field last year and made some big plays, what do you attribute your success to?

Jamaal Westerman- Hard work and being ready when my number was called.

JJF-Coming out of Rutgers and then signing with the Jets, were you excited to be playing close to your college stomping grounds?

JW- It’s a great feeling being able to play for in same state, New Jersey, New York people that cheered me on the college. The fans in this area are great.

JJF-How do you see your role in the defense this year? Will you be utilized differently then last year, or will you play a similar role?

JW- I’m going to try to be the player that is ready when he is called. Learning both OLB postions and the inside LB too. I also will be busting my butt on special team. But I will go into trainig camp the same way as i did last year. Working hard and trying to make the best of my chances.

JJF-What was your favorite game last season and why?

JW- That’s a hard question. every game I played in was special to me because I’m living my dream. But the first game against the Texans when I got my first sack will be something I will always remember. The end of the season was great. The run we made to make it into the playoff was special.

Well that’s all folks, hope you enjoyed the interview. Good luck to Jamaal this season, I’m sure he will tear it up on the field!
